Sadly BMI Regional has cancelled all its flights and filed for administration.
BMI Regional said it had been badly affected by spikes in fuel prices and carbon costs together with uncertainty over Brexit that led to the unavoidable decision to cease flying.
A sad day for all it's employees.
It's a real shame. I lived up in Aberdeen, and drove past their HQ a few times while I was up there. Flew on them a few times too.
Loganair, their sister airline, has now snapped up some of the more profitable routes, and will take on a couple of the aircraft, as well as some of the staff, so its not all bad news.
One of my fondest memories was taking an early morning flight back from Turkey in to Manchester, then connecting on to the early morning MAN-ABZ flight. I was surrounded by businessmen commuting up to Aberdeen for work/meetings. It was 9am. The flight attendant came round - "Tea or Coffee Sir?" I replied - "Vodka and Lemonade please". That threw her! Poor woman had to go all the way down to the back of the aircraft to get alcohol - she wasn't expecting anyone to be wanting vodka at that time in the morning!
