Hi Brian,
I have done some research on 4 DH104 Doves that need correcting and adding to the DB when you can. 3 are military and one civil if you don't mind.
VP-YKF c/n 04292 was 3D-AAI & G-AMDD and while she is apparently painted as 176 of the Irish Air Corps, she never carried that serial.
EI-BJW c/n 04485 was HB-LFF, PH-IOM and G-ASNG.
176 c/n 04368 was bought new by the Irish Air Corps and remained with them until retirement.
G-KOOL c/n 04220 is preserved as VP967 at RAF Elvington.
Many thanks
Greg

Thanks for the quick turn around and also the correction on the YAH-64A

I do have a couples of questions

Firstly

0-60828 Bell AH-1 US Army

I did list this on the original submission however it has not been added to the database. I was unable to find a c/n but I do have it listed in my log book and I can find online lists of participating aircraft that do list it too but it hasn't been added to the database. From what I have see you were at the '82 Middle Wallop show too (the day before me it seems) so is it on your list too?

Also I have in my log book the Gazelle listed below. This one I can't see on any online list for the show nor can I find any record of any aircraft issued the registration. I suspect this was a case of me logging down an incorrect registration but as you were there too any ideas ?

ZA763 Gazelle AH.1 RAF

Finally on my list I posted a Lynx 264 c/n 040 which is a French Navy example. I had copied the wrong aircraft details in error into my post and it should have been the aircraft below so if you can add this one as well I would be grateful.

264 Westland SH-14D Lynx C/N 022

Thanks

Steve

Hi Alfred,

Your request of 09 November 2019 - 08:53:49 (Swiss AF) has been completed.

Re your request for the C-130's, I have sent a list of all C-130E/H to Gavin and he will transfer it to the DB when he has a spare minute (together with my A-10 & C-141 lists). It saves a lot of time having to input them separately! I'll work on the others in your list shortly.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Greg,

Re your request of 09 November regarding the DH104's...

  1. I have deleted reference to 176 (IAC) on the G-AMDD, 3D-AAI, VP-YKF file.

  2. EI-BJW never wore HB-LFF. It went straight from PH-IOM to G-ASNG. A couple of the sites state that HB-LFF was ntu.

  3. 176 (IAC) c/n 04368 has been added.

  4. VP967, G-KOOL has been added.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi All,

Am going into hospital on Friday so replies will be a little slow for the next few days until I'm back on my feet (well...in the chair at least!)

Before I became an admin I sent detailed a/c lists on the USAF C-130E/H, C-141. A-10 and USN/USMC C-130's to Gavin. When he has the chance he will upload the lists en-mass to save me having to key in each individual record so please bear with us on these types until this has been completed.

Thanks for your understanding & patience.

Kind regards, Brian

I have a puzzle that I'm hoping someone out there can help me solve. So far I have been successful in identifying all the aircraft I have listed in my old log books not on the database, hence the regular posts. I have come across an entry for Duxford on 1st May 1983 where I have listed a HE 111 (this could of course be a CASA 2.111) with a registration/code of +MH but I am struggling to find any details about the aircraft's identity. There is a CASA 2.111 (B.21-103) list as spending time at Duxford but that is listed as arriving in 1998. I did find some info suggesting HE 111 werk nr 5117 was stored at Duxford in the 1970's and into the 80's so I'm thinking this could be the one. Can anyone help????

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the kind words. I'm back in the chair (albeit hobbling) so will begin to work on your updates.

On a not-so-good-news Gavin is unable to batch upload my data files as it keeps creating a new air force for each entry, instead of including it in the existing one, so it means I will have to manually enter them all individually. I will start on it once the present batch of updates are actioned, and let you know once each type has been completed so you can put in your sightings. Appreciate your patience but we will get there eventually!

Kindest regards, Brian

Hi Mike

Your request of 12 November 2019 - 12:09:04 has been completed. Please note the Qatari C-130J isn't A7-MAH. It has s/n 211 (carried on the tail) and coded 'MAH' (on the nose) - unlike the C-17A's that are A7-xxx (very confusing!).

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Steve,

Have just finished your extensive Yeovilton '82 show list (I was there on 30th).

A couple of points to mention: due to the DB requiring a minimum of 3 digits for a s/n I have listed the French stuff with a leading zero, so the Super Etendard 44 is in as 044, Br.1050 as 050 etc. You can put a note in the comments to say it's s/n is 44 (as I do on mine).

Also the Super Etendard c/n for 59 is actually 64! 59 was the original Etendard 4M model.

Kind regards, Brian

Good to see you're back. I had noticed that we had attended the same shows all those years ago and often on different days. Thanks for the update on the c/n and I was wondering how I would find the French ones given the fact we can't search on two digits so you've solved that one too. Keep up the good work.

Hi Greg,

I've added Vulcan B.2 XM602 to the DB but am struggling with the Canberra. WH387 was never allocated as a serial and I've looked at various versions (WH873 etc.,) but can't seem to tie anything up. I've also searched my own DB and the web to see if I could find anything 'painted as' but with no luck. Could this be a typo?

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Brian,

You're very good to go to all that trouble. My recollection is that it was a desert colour scheme and it was doing a touch and go and I could well have mis-read it in my excitement.
thanks again,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Not a problem, just sorry I couldn't help ID it. You could always send a message to the BOH aviation group (I think they have a Facebook page & website) to see if any of us 'mature' members can recollect it. It's worth a punt!

Kind regards, Brian

Hi All,

Due to work commitments and a slow running system of late, I haven't progressed as far as I'd hoped with the A-10 records (just about halfway through), so I'll keep plodding on and hope to have them finished by the end of the festive period.

Please keep sending in your update requests as these take priority for you.

If I don't get the chance to chat again before the end of next week have a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful 2020.

Kindest regards, Brian

Thanks for the latest update but I do have one question. The first item on my list, the OH-58A doesn't seem to have been added. It does have an alternative code of ET-126 but I tried searching that and still was unable to find it. Can you have a look please and you have a great Christmas too.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Mike,

Your request of 16 December has been completed.

UD.14-04 has been entered by someone with the code after a '/' which the programme doesn't like, hence the error message (even I can't get to it with my admin privilege) so you'll see two entries at the moment when searching for the serial. Use the one with the code in parenthesis () to log your sighting and I'll ask Gavin, our Webmaster, if he can deleted the other record (hopefully!)

Kind regards, Brian

Hi All,

Hope you're all rested after the festive period?

I've just finished inputting all the A-10's into the DB.

If you spot any silly errors or typo's please let me know as, despite them being my favourite aircraft (you'd never guess from my nickname !), I probably did go a bit type blind while constantly switching between my personal records and the DB input screen!!

The entire USAF DB needs a good tidy-up and I'll get round to it after I've completed entering the C-130E's (my next project).

Kind regards, Brian

Hi All,

A slight change of plan!

I've just completed adding all the USN/USMC C-130's to the DB.

I'll make a start on the USAF C-130E's after dealing with a couple of update requests.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Alfred,

Many thanks for pointing out the bad typing on A-10C 82-0646. I have no idea how I typed 12.08.93 for 02.08.83 - I must have been half asleep!!

Your request of 03 January 2020 has been completed.

Hi Mike,

Your request of 07 January 2020 has been completed with the following notes:

  1. The JN-4C is C227 (it was N111 at one point)

  2. the Me 163 is listed as being 191916, but painted as '191914' on all the info I could find.

  3. the He 162 is listed as 120086 (as far as I can see)

  4. The Lysander is R9003 (ex RAF) & painted as '2345'

  5. I've entered the Fokker D.VII s/n as 10347(18) as the DB doesn't take obliques (it will allow me to enter it with one but you won't be able to access it - getting a DB error message in return).

  6. (as above) the Junkers J.1 is in as 586(18).

  7. The Nieuport 12 is actually A4737 & painted as N1504

  8. The AEG G.IV is actually 597/18 (entered as 597(18) per above, but painted as 574/18.

  9. The Spitfire is NH188 (I can't find any reference to it as CF-NUS)

I hope this helps. Any issues just let me know and I'll try to dig some further.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Ron,

Many thanks for pointing that out.

Unfortunately if the system is running slow it tends to re-generate our input request (I had an instance a few days ago where the same F-4E was entered 11 different times & I had to go back in and delete all the unwanted records!).

It's all been cleared up now.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Brian

Re Spitfire NH188 NH188 is a Spitfire IX and part of a batch of Spitfire's delivered to the RAF between April and June 1944 by Vickers-Armstrong at Castle Bromwich. It did in fact serve with 416 Squadron RCAF and was handed over to the RNAF's 308 Squadron on May 16, 1947. With the RNAF, it was registered as H-64 and then H-109. Thereafter it served with the Belgian Air Force from March 1952 till 1954, struck off charge after an accident on April 12, 1954. It was registered as OO-ARC between May 25, 1956 and August 1961. Sold to John N. Paterson of Ontario Canada it was registered CF-NUS, first flight in Canada 1962. Mr. Patterson donated the Spitfire to the Canadian National Aviation Museum in Ottawa in June of 1964. Jerry Billing was the pilot that delivered NH188 to the museum and did a 10 min aerobatic display before landing at the museum. NH188 has been on static display ever since,

Just a bit more detail.

Hi Steve,

Your Greenham list of 1983 has been completed (request of 10 January 2020) with the following notes:

  1. SR-71A s/n is 61-7980 (it was a common error that they were originally listed ay FY'64 a/c).
  2. Br.1050 has indeed been entered as 056 3, Super Etendard's 50 & 60 have been entered as 050 & 060.

Kind regards, Brian

Thanks Brian,

As you correctly worked out it was Greenham '83 but it appears from the aircraft I have logged that were already on the DB you were there the same day so no great surprise that you knew that.

I had found references online for the SR71 stating 61-7980 as well as 64-17980 which seemed to suggest they were the same airframe but no c/n's were listed so I was unable to confirm it. I figured that you know your stuff and would get to the bottom of it and I was right.

Thanks for the effort and keep up the good work.

Steve

Hi Mike,

My apologies for not pointing out a couple of the entries (I was in a rush to let you know it was completed and forgot to check my notes!)

The HUP-3 is entered at 623 (Royal Canadian Navy) according to the Museum website. I can't find any reference to it as 116623 (other than the normal 51-16623 that it wore in USAF service) and it may be presented as a version of this (their website states it as 51-16623). I am tempted to enter it as the full USAF serial but show it as RCN for the owner?

Also the HO4S is 877 (RCN) with the c/n as 55-877. Again, no reference to it as 55877.

You know what these Museum people do when let loose with a paintbrush, lol !!

Let me know if you want the HUP-3 amended, as suggested.

Kind regards, Brian
