How far out from an airport do people log the sighting with the airport code? If I spot a plane a couple of miles/km from an airport and I know its on approach I will use the airport code for location but otherwise it will be OTT. What are the rest of you doing?

In my case it has to be within say 10km, and on approach or departure.

As mentioned it’s your hobby and you set your own standards, personally if I am sat around an airport only movements within the confines of that airport are logged to that particular airport, including training flights using the ILS, if an aircraft flys overhead irrespective of height I log as an OTT.
