Anyone else think this should be a bit broader. For example 737-8AS. This is Ryanair's customer number but I would prefer the type to just say 737-8. Tough to actually track your top aircraft types when it splits it up like this

Welcome to the site, and thanks for upgrading to premium and helping to support the site.
Unfortunately this is a limitation of the way the aircraft have been stored in the database. As a result, there are only two options 1) display them as "737" and group all models together, or 2) group them as 737-8AS, which as you say is a little too specific.
The only other option is to go through the database and edit every single record, which unfortunately is a massive task.
It's something we're looking in to at the moment, it's certainly something that we'd love to fix.
It's not really that much of an issue, and certainly not worth going to a lot of effort to fix such a little thing really. I guess everyone is probably has a different opinion on it
