| Comments | rgd, the C-131E was constructed with beefier airframe and cargo floor, with the airframe belt frames and skins 1 size thicker than the previous C-131's. The cargo floor was constructed with I beams across and tie-down rails lengthwise with a floor of reinforced magnesium between the lengthwise floor beams. It had a floor rating of 300 pounds per square foot, whereas a stock civilian Convair was only 75 pounds per square foot. The C-131D had a standard Convair floor, and the C-131B had a standard floor except the floor was beefed up at the Cargo door area to 150 pounds per square foot. The cargo door on the C-131B was 100" wide while the C-131E had the larger door of 120" wide. |
